LECTURES
WEEK5
In class, the teacher asks everyone to draw a mind map, and the mind map must cover what kind of person you want to be in the future, your personality and your hobbies, which will have a profound impact on the later homework.

Advanced Typography: Perception & Organisation
Organisation /Gestalt.
Gestalt is a german word meaning the way a thing has been “placedor "put together". Gestalt Psychology is an attempt to understand thelaws behind the ability to acquire and maintain meaningfulperceptions.
The Gestalt psychologists, especially Max Wertheimer, developed anumber of “laws" that predict how perceptual grouping occurs undera variety of circumstances (Wertheimer, 1923/1938).Technically. insciences, laws are predictions that are true. In reality, these laws arebetter classified as principles
law of closure
The Law of Closure refers to the mind's tendency to see completefigures or forms even if a picture is incomplete, partially hidden byother objects, or if part of the information needed to make a completepicture in our minds is missing
Law of (Good) Continuation holds that humans tend to perceive eachof two or more obiects as different, singular, and uninterrupted obiecteven when they intersect. The alignment of the objects or forms playsa major role for this principle to take effect. For more.
Form with good communication
1) Law of Similarity
It states that humans tend to perceive elements that are close to each other as belonging together, spatial arrangement of visual elements influences our perspective of their relationship and grouping
2) Law of Proximity
It states that elements that are close together tend to be perceived as a unified group whereas items further apart are less likely to be grouped together.
3) The Law of Closure
It refers to the mind’s tendency to see complete figures or forms even if a picture is incomplete, partially hidden by other objects, or if part of the information needed to make a complete picture in our minds is missing
4)Law of (Good) Continuation
It states that humans tend to perceive each of two or more objects as different, singular, and uninterrupted object even when they intersect. The alignment of the objects or forms plays a major role for this principle to take effect.
5) Law of symmetry
It explains how humans perceive visual elements as balanced when they are arranged in symmetrical or follow a predictable pattern.
Gesalt Principles of Grouping
The organization of informationand how it is perceived should beconsidered by designers as asocial responsibility-crucial foreffective communication, transferof knowledge and for under-standing to occur.
I think the teacher's words are very right, I have the same feeling, we should consider every point, social responsibility, effective communication and knowledge transfer, which is an important step to become a big designer.
INSTRUCTIONS
Mindmap / Research
Before the sketches, we are instructed to do a mindmap about ourself. We will need to find keyword that represent ourself. It can be the present "me", or a person I look forward to become.
Mindmap_About Me
What I want to do is to have a sense of responsibility and punctuality related to my personality, so based on these two points, I hope to make an angular font, and the font must be prominent, but also with a little exaggeration, because this is in line with my personality.
Online case
I decided to use my last name as the letter for this assignment
Sketches
I referred to many elements, and finally I chose the element of rock, which I wanted to perfectly combine with the font, because my name in Chinese means the mountains of China, so I wanted to combine the name with the mountains and rocks.

colour
In the end, Mr. Vinod and I both chose this font, which is another source of rock.Originally, the font was placed diagonally, but Mr.Vinod and I both thought that the horizontal font looked better and was more regular, so I chose to change its arrangement.

In class, Mr.Vinod taught me a lot of ways to improve fonts to make them more artistic. Now I like this kind of class very much. This kind of one-on-one tutoring makes me finish my homework more efficiently.
FEEDBACK
Week8
General Feedback: This week, I submitted my work to Instagram and wrote my homework on my blog. Although there were no classes during the study week, it was still very fulfilling.
Specific Feedback: After submitting my homework, I also started working on Task 3, where I selected stones, flowers, and street graffiti fonts. These three, two from nature and one from the streets of the United States, are all elements that I like, and based on the artist's font, I have also created six new interesting works.
Week 7
Specific Feedback: I chose three products, namely sneakers, mobile phone case and packaging box, which I think are relatively representative and classic products. I rearranged my fonts, recombined them, and designed them by rotating them clockwise. Many brands now design their products in this way.
General Feedback: This week, we need to turn our own typefaces into artwork, and we need to put these derived designs on the product, to play their value.
Week 6
General Feedback:In the class, everyone needs to improve their own fonts and communicate with Mr.Vinod, which I think is interesting, everyone has to speak their own inspiration, which makes the class more free .
Specific feedback:I gave two schemes, the teacher may think that scheme one is too common, so I chose my rock-related font, and rock is also related to my name, which means mountain in Chinese. In the end, Mr. Vinod and I both chose this font, which is another source of rock.Originally, the font was placed diagonally, but Mr.Vinod and I both thought that the horizontal font looked better and was more regular, so I chose to change its arrangement.
Week 5
General feedback:In class this week, we were tasked with drawing a mind map and a sketch, which helped later in the class, and each of us went through one-on-one tutoring with the teacher, which helped us a lot.
Specific feedback:After class, I think what I need to improve is my sketch, which will be difficult to digitize, so I think I need to make the sketch more detailed and complete. Although it is only a sketch, the sketch is the first step in the design, and we should all take each step seriously.
REFLECTION
Experience
Learning is a long process, I think I did not learn more software in this semester, but continued my study in the software I have learned. A good design is a constant deliberation, so is a good design, a good video and a good music. Therefore, I went further and further on the road of learning AI and PS software. Both these two software are used very frequently in the future work and daily life, I think this is really combined with life, so is the design. At the end of the homework, we need to put the fonts designed by ourselves on daily necessities, which is also combined with daily life.
Observation
Each assignment is a new attempt, each assignment makes me feel the richness of life, I will work harder on the road of font design, compared with last semester, I think the assignment of this semester will be a little more difficult, but at the same time more interesting, I like the current form of class, I have enough time to exchange my ideas with the teacher. Before the end of each class, I would ask Mr.Vinod questions about what could be improved in the design this time, and the teacher would give me suggestions. Such as whether to stand upright or horizontal or rotate a circle, these are valuable advice.
Findings
After this period of study, I found a lot of design experience, I think a good design comes from life, just like what Mr.Vinod said in this assignment, every font has its inspiration source, he would ask everyone about the source of font sense, some from punctuation, some from life, some from the name itself. I think it's really interesting to explore the stories and culture behind art.

Experimental Typography Design Critique by The Futur Academy(11/13/2024, week 8)
I learned a lot from this video and I made a summary
Learn how to convey information and emotion through elements such as images, color, typography, and motion effects.
How designers use visual effects to enhance the comprehensibility of information and the audience's sense of engagement.
Learn how to build a visual story to ensure harmony and coherence between design elements.
Learn how to standardize colors, fonts, image styles, etc. according to brand guidelines to keep your design consistent.
Stimulate your own creative thinking, try new and unique design techniques, break through the routine.
As a student of design, I think the most important goal now is to learn design software well and learn drawing basics well. Laying a solid foundation is the most important first step, which is conducive to stimulating my creative thinking in the future.
