Research
I have a precedent for this design before, but I want to make this font better and more advanced on the basis of the original. It's a little more complicated to make, but I don't think it's a problem.
Reference drawing

Fig 1.2 Visual reference_Chinese porcelain (19/11/2024, Week 9)
I have studied a lot of fonts related to flowers, and it is not a simple thing to cross the letters with flowers and leaves, I think that as long as the characteristics of the letters are preserved and combined with the characteristics of flowers, it is enough.

Production process
First of all, I drew the font I wanted on the procreate software, and then found a matching flower copy to use it.(As shown in the figure)
Fig 1.7 Font design process The letter Y
Then the second step is to import the image into adobe illustrator as a JPEG. We use the sketching tool above to turn our black and white image into a file that can be modified.
Fig 1.8 Font design process
I chose to copy the result, and then opened the side of the view panel to adjust the parameters, which are my own research parameters, respectively, threshold 170, path 42%, corner 50%, noise 10%, capital letters do not need to choose to simplify, lowercase letters need to simplify.

Once the parameters have been adjusted, click on the extension at the top, then select remove the border and white area, and then adjust the characteristics of each letter, (hold shift to adjust the size, so that it does not distort), and then group such a perfect letter design is complete.

At that time, I drew two sketches of each of the three fonts, but I still wanted to challenge the most difficult flower font, I wanted each letter to represent a flower, but this is difficult, because I can't seem to list so many flowers. It is difficult to recognize all kinds of flowers.
Fig 1.11 Flower font uppercase, lowercase, numbers(30/11/2024, Week 10)
This time, I added more fonts, all of which are in the form of flowers, but the 26 uppercase letters were changed to lowercase. Many letters have very similar places, such as c, h, m and n. However, many letters need to be redesigned, which I think is a relatively difficult point. Secondly, I think it is difficult to unify the thickness of the numbers, just like 4 and 5 belong to the most difficult numbers to do.

I imported the font from AI to fontlab, and the process was very smooth. The font size did not have too many problems, and minor adjustments were made. I thought there was no problem on the whole.
Fig 1.13 Flower Font uppercase, lowercase, numbers, punctuation (improved)
There were some problems in the process of importing Fontlab again. I found that there were big problems with the sizes of minus and division signs, and the anchor points of some details were not removed, which caused me a headache.

Font Presentation
We will need to do 5 artworks to present the designed font.

Mr.Vinod gave me some suggestions in class. I think my first and second key artworks should focus on letters. I think my flower border stole the limelight from the font. So I modified it, and the teacher sent me a file to help me make key artwork, and I tried to imitate one of the screen layouts, because it would also help me show my numbers.
In the first key piece of art, I listened to Mr.Vinod and enlarged the font, because this would bring out the character of my font.

FEEDBACK
Week 9
General feedback:I chose to prepare three typefaces inspired by stone typefaces, flower typefaces and graffiti typefaces.
Specific feedback: Finally, I chose the flower font, because I think it is the most difficult, and I think it is the most beautiful font. It can be used in many places, such as places with flowers, parks, flower shops, shopping malls, and posters.
Week 10
General feedback:I have designed all the capital letters, and then I will adjust the font to be more uniform.
Specific feedback: I like to combine fonts with flowers. Mr.VINOD told me that I could try to add leaves and roots, so that they would not be monotonous flowers, and the characters would be fuller and richer. I like such a design, which has a kind of beauty combining nature and humanity.
Week 11
General feedback:I've been focusing on punctuation this week, and designing a good looking set of punctuation marks is no easy task.
Specific feedback: This week I have perfected my uppercase, lowercase, numbers and punctuation marks, I have focused on punctuation marks, because this time I need to make a large number of punctuation marks, I am controlling their size, size and color, because my font theme is flowers, this design makes all letters, numbers and punctuation complicated.
Week 12
General feedback:In Week 12 our classes were replaced by a public holiday, but Mr.Vinod was able to start the online class and explain the homework.
Specific feedback: This week, I imported all my uppercase letters, lowercase letters, numbers and punctuation into fontlab without any problems during the re-import process. However, I found some serious problems with the size of several punctuation marks. The size was too large, so I modified my punctuation marks in fontlab.
REFLECTIONS
Experience
Through this assignment, I learned a lot of new skills, such as sketching, copying, expansion and other functions in AI, and also improved my other aspects and enhanced my painting. During the whole design process, I learned a lot. From the very beginning of the inspiration, Mr.Vinod respected my ideas and practices very much and wanted to choose the graffiti font. I changed it to a floral font at the back, and he respected my every choice. In the later production, I showed the font to the teacher, but he did not give me any suggestions, but kept encouraging me, saying that it was a very beautiful and exquisite font, which gave me great encouragement. Here, I would like to thank Mr.Vinod very much. When the homework was finished at last, I got a great sense of accomplishment. I like the fonts designed in this semester very much, and I will continue to work hard.
Observation
In this assignment, I have observed many points that I have never found before. For example, the typeface designed can be complex or simple, but it must have its own style. In Project 2, my typeface did not show a particularly unique style, so I used flowers, plants and other elements in this assignment. Just to show off the style.
Findings
This semester, I consolidated the learning of AI and fontlab, and once again felt the charm of typography design. This charm is unique, and creating a font is a very fulfilling thing.

Fig 1.26 Research on Font Design and Communication Based on Computer Technology
Font collocation is a key part of font design. By matching different types of fonts (serif versus sans serif, bold versus thin, etc.), you can make the design richer and more hierarchical. However, avoid using too many different styles of fonts when matching, so as not to cause visual confusion. Often, designers will use one primary font and one secondary font to achieve a harmonious match.
The details of a font design often determine the quality of the entire design. Small adjustments to the font, changes in kerning, and optimization of line spacing can all inadvertently affect the viewer's feelings. Good typeface designers often spend a lot of time on details, fine-tuning each text element to ensure visual balance.
