Project 2: Infographic Video Animation

List

LECTURES

TIME FRAME: WEEK 10 - WEEK 13

DEADLINE: WEEK 14

INSTRUCTION:

Assignment Requirements:

Based on FLIP group topic research, produce a basic video animation.

DESCRIPTION:

Using a processed design framework, you will now produce an infographic report to present the given information to a ‘target audience’ with the purpose of:

1. Creating awareness (such as Global Warming, Recycle, etc.)

2. Explaining a process (such as "how to" video)

3. Defining a concept (such as "What is Fast Fashion", "What is Color Wheel", etc.)

Any time based media and software using photography, vector imagery.

Design Considerations:

Organization Principles – LATCH and Content Organization

Aesthetic Principles – Animation principles

Cognitive Principles – Principles of visualization

Output Expectation:

The presentation must be deliberated on, consider each assessment rubric of sorts to your final outcome:

 Show causality

 Multivariate graphics and visuals

 Integrate word number and images

 Content count

 Within eyesight

 Use multiple charts

 Do not de-quantify

Week11

Starting from this week, we will fully devote ourselves to the animation production of the final project. What we are going to create is a short video animation introducing the history of Lego.

Our animation is called "Lego Journey Through Time". I plan to present the entire history of Lego from the perspective of its founder, Ole Kirk Christiansen, in the first person.

Our team consists of only two people, but I believe we are capable of completing the upcoming tasks. This week, we created storyboards. Mr. Fauzi liked our storyboards very much after viewing them and gave us an extremely high evaluation. We can do more research online. It would be very tiring to rely solely on hand-drawn materials.

Week12

This week, I have started the animation production. I have divided the entire animation into five parts.

Part One: At the beginning, a small figure walks through various scenes, representing time travel. In front of him, he sees the history of Lego and numerous brand collaborations.

Part Two: The protagonist, also the founder Ole Kirk Christiansen, begins to introduce the history of Lego, telling the story of how a humble woodworker from a small Danish town gradually became the world's number one toy brand.

Part Three: The protagonist purchased the first plastic manufacturing machine, which changed the way Lego was played.

Part Four: The fire destroyed his wooden toy factory, making him even more determined to continue making plastic toys. However, this fire had a significant impact on the protagonist.

Part Five: The birth of the Lego figurines was a milestone moment, as this little figurine led Lego to embark on the path of brand collaborations in the business world.

Part Six: From 1999 to the present, Lego has continuously engaged in cross-border collaborations and has continuously formed partnerships, making the business empire increasingly vast and making other brands feel intimidated.

Part Seven: The protagonist has already achieved great success. Looking back, he encourages every young person with dreams and children who love Lego to be full of dreams, and you will also be as successful as me.

Since in the sixth part I will present all the significant collaborations in Lego's history, these are the materials I have collected and will be used in the animation production.

And we need to incorporate some charts into the animation. Using multiple charts is also one of the requirements of the task.
Week13
The first version Animation

This week in class, we showed our animation to Mr. Fauzi, and he gave us several suggestions:

1. The duration is too long; it must be controlled within 2 minutes.

2. The entire animation is too complex; it needs to be simpler.

3. We should focus on the animation rather than the editing.

4. We can continue the style of our presentation slides.

Week14

This is the final improved animation.

Final animation

INSTRUCTIONS

Animation story concept:

The original intention behind creating this animation was to convey this spirit of never giving up. The audience consists of children and their parents. It aims to help people understand the history, peak and low points of Lego. Success is not achieved easily; yet you must firmly believe that you can do it. One cannot live without a dream. As long as you persist, you can achieve the same success as Ole Kirk Christiansen.

FEEDBACK

Week11

This week, we created storyboards. Mr. Fauzi liked our storyboards very much after viewing them and gave us an extremely high evaluation. We can do more research online. It would be very tiring to rely solely on hand-drawn materials.

He hopes that we will further refine the moodboard and continue to maintain our style in the same way as in the PowerPoint presentation.

Week12

This week in class, we showed our animation to Mr. Fauzi, and he gave us several suggestions:

1. The duration is too long; it must be controlled within 2 minutes.

2. The entire animation is too complex; it needs to be simpler.

3. We should focus on the animation rather than the editing.

4. We can continue the style of our presentation slides.

Week13

There are no classes during the Christmas vacation.

Week14

In the fourteenth week, we showed the final version of the animation to Mr. Fauzi and he gave us his approval. He thought it was a good animation and that we had clearly presented the history of Lego.

REFLECTION

In the Information Design course, under the guidance of Mr. Fauzi, I completed an animated work centered around the history of Lego. Through this project, I gained a deeper understanding of "how information can be effectively organized, visualized, and presented".

At the beginning of the project, I needed to sift through a large amount of information about the history of Lego to extract the key details and transform them into a clear and logical timeline. This process made me realize that information design is not simply about making the content "look good", but rather about achieving a balance between accuracy and readability. Only by grasping the core events can the audience understand the complex development process within a short period of time.

During the animation production process, I constantly pondered how to guide the audience's attention through rhythm, layering of visuals and visual symbols. For instance, by using the timeline, key points and graphic changes to emphasize the key points of the information, rather than relying on a large amount of textual explanations. This made me realize that animation is a very effective way to convey information, but only if the information structure is clear enough.

At the same time, this project also made me realize my shortcomings, such as there is still room for improvement in the early stage of information organization and overall rhythm control. Under Mr. Fauzi's feedback, I learned to focus on "the information itself" and recheck whether the content truly serves understanding rather than being obscured by visual effects.

Overall, this information design course enabled me to shift my perspective from "visual presentation" to a more rational consideration of the organization and expression of information. It also made me realize the significant value of information design in education and communication.
